En ting er, at Rübner Jørgensens beskæftigelse med demografiske spørgsmål øjensynlig er gået i stå engang i begyndelsen af 1970erne, da man endnu betragtede dommedagsprofetier som Paul Ehrlichs bog Befolkningsbomben 1968 som den skinbarlige sandhed. Noget andet er, at Rübner Jørgensen inden han besluttede sig for at begave kloden med 30 mia. I så fald kunne han have konstateret følgende: Den samlede fertilitet i Mexico var i 1970 6,5, hvilket vil sige, at mexicanske kvinder i gennemsnit fik et sted mellem 6 og 7 børn. I perioden 2005-10 siger prognosen, som er udarbejdet i 2006, at tallet vil falde til 2,21 medium-estimatet eller den lavere variant som erfaringsmæssigt er den, der kommer tættest på virkeligheden : 1,96 - altså til et antal børn, som kun lige akkurat vil kunne sikre status quo. Sammenhold dette med, at den samlede fertilitet i hele verden faldt fra 4,98 1960-65 til 2,65 2000-05. Omkring 2040 knækker kurven ifølge prognoserne, og befolkningstallet vil herefter være i frit fald. Det vil toppe omkring 7,6 mia.
